Technology is a major cause of stress. Anxiety and insomnia are so widespread now, they are almost ‘normal’ and have a significant impact on immunity and hormonal health. In the ten years I’ve been in homeopathy practice, I’ve studied sleep, stress, and hormonal health as issues in these areas are on the rise. Knowledge is power and I always want to help my clients understand why they are not well. This helps to restore a sense of control and is a key part of my holistic approach to health and well-being.
Life is a journey, but work and screens can take over. Simple daily habits can offer a buffer. A few small routines help to create quality time and moments of contentment that make a big difference in how you feel.
Blue light from screens seriously affects our circadian rhythms. When your circadian rhythms are messed up you don’t sleep well. (Either that or you just keep going to bed late, which leads to less sleep…)
At the end of every day, we want to feel a sense of accomplishment. How we achieve that will vary, depending on our focus for the day, and also how productive we’ve been. I’ve read many books on productivity and time-management and learned different things from each of them.
When we feel under pressure of work, or if we are involved in something inspiring, it can be hard to switch off. When we keep working in ‘full on’ mode, our body is in a double-bind. On one hand, it’s doing something that is rewarding and enjoyable. On the other hand, it’s struggling to keep going without proper downtime for rest and recovery.
Screens are one of the causes of stress which makes your body feel you’re in ‘fight or flight’ mode. When it’s happening all day every day, it’s really not great and tends to show up in our hormones, immunity and even our digestion and skin.
I’m not going anywhere this weekend but I don’t mind. A long weekend at home can feel like a holiday too. Having three whole days off is such a treat. If I’m honest, looking after myself is not always as high on the list of priorities as it should be. Taking care of my home is something I enjoy but don’t always have enough time for. This weekend they are the main things on my agenda.
Homeopathy and herbs have been used to restore hormonal health for literally hundreds of years. Naturally cleansing and nourishing, they gently stimulate a healing process that allows your body to rebalance itself.
I’ve been inspired to make a small space at the end of my day for an evening routine. Simple rituals help me feel thankful and help me relax before I go to sleep.
When you feel tired a lot of the time you seem to catch everything that’s going around, you probably think it’s just because you’re working too hard and not getting enough sleep. You’re partly right. It’s also because of your hormones.
